about

This is the second of four EPs, collectively titled 'For Everybody and No One'.

I'm aiming to release each part approximately 3 months apart (though I'm afraid real life is causing me to fall miserably short of that target thus far!), in the form of limited edition physical EPs (with unique handmade origami packaging) and as a digital download or stream from this very website!

For gig listings, general rambling, or musings on what this EP (and the others) are all about, visit www.mattmidgley.co.uk

Thanks for listening!

Track Name: Worlds End
Woke up this morning, and the world had ended
Rubbed my eyes, and they just streamed
Tried to find some comfort in it
As I stood there naked, I felt my heart

Feel my heart beat

Got myself together, and went outside
Went down to the river to see first hand
The banks were muddy, and the fish had drowned
As I watched them thrash, I felt my lungs

Feel my lungs breath
Feel my heart beat

And start over again

You are not alone
And there's no one in the sky
So get up off your knees
And dry your fucking eyes
You've felt this way before
And you're sure to love again
So learn how best to cope
And memorise the pain
And when you feel the darkness
Encroach upon your soul
Take a moment's silence
And remember what you own
A heart to pump your blood
And lungs to breath the air
Eyes to witness beauty
So stop blinding them with tears

The world's not ended
Track Name: Hatchet
A pregnant dawn
Heavy with promise
It's much too early
Much too honest
And my coffee has burned again

Your pauses stifle
Tearing at my lungs
What were those women
Like when they were young
Bitter; forgot my cane

Inconceivable is a fallacy
Why we care, we can't recall
The clock hits six
Contractions of worry breaks
Against the window pain
One last good luck
Before you go

Read the paper
To tear away my mind
From abstract thoughts
Of absent times
Movement makes me ill

Watch the cobbles
Push up the sun
I wonder if their hands get burned
Sometimes
Good things can hurt

Inconceivable is a fallacy
Why we care, we can't recall
The clock hits six
Contractions of worry breaks
Against the window pain
One last good luck
Track Name: Everybody and No One
He locks the front door late
Even though he got up on time
Watches the first train come and go
To buy himself some
Gets lost inside a crossword
Only knows a couple of clues
Drags and stamps his third cigarette
Got plenty more to lose

Surrounded by nameless faces
Never felt so alone
Sends out a message addressed
To everybody and no one

She watches the glowing boxes
For the fiftieth hour that week
The chime of the inbox tells her
The weekend's not quite yet
She focusses on the middle
Tries to hold herself in
Closes her eyes and counts to ten
A drink can't come too soon

Surrounded by nameless faces
Never felt so alone
Sends out a message addressed
To everybody and no one
